Makers of the World's First Solar EV Charger

A company built around one question: why can't I charge my car from my own solar? Essential Solar installs the myenergi zappi for Melbourne homes wanting to charge an EV directly from solar.

Who myenergi are

myenergi was founded in Grimsby, in the north of England, in 2016, by engineer Lee Sutton and entrepreneur Jordan Brompton. The company's first product was not the zappi but the eddi, a device that diverts surplus solar energy into hot water rather than letting it go to waste.

The zappi followed soon after, built to solve the same problem for electric vehicles, and is recognised by myenergi as the world's first solar and wind compatible EV charger.

Ten years, ten countries

myenergi now employs more than 250 people and operates across 10 countries, including a dedicated Australian office. Products are still manufactured in the UK, at a purpose built facility in Lincolnshire, and myenergi is approaching its one millionth unit shipped worldwide since starting in 2016.

That kind of growth, from a two person start-up to a company operating on this scale within a decade, reflects genuine demand for the problem myenergi set out to solve, rather than a product line added on top of an existing large company.

Why we install myenergi

Built around a problem, not a feature

Both the eddi and the zappi were designed specifically to help solar households use more of their own power, rather than being an EV charger added to an existing general electronics catalogue.

UK manufacturing with a local Australian office

Products are made in the UK, and myenergi maintains an office in Melbourne responsible for warranty and support obligations under Australian law.

A track record measured in the field, not just on paper

myenergi's connected products actively manage 1.7GW of household energy demand across the countries where they operate, a scale that reflects genuine field history rather than a newly launched product line.

One charger, sized to your home

The zappi

Essential Solar installs the myenergi zappi in a 7kW single-phase configuration for most homes, or 22kW three-phase for properties with a three-phase supply. Which configuration suits a property depends on the existing solar system and the home's electrical setup, something we work through during your assessment.
