Built-In Solar Inverter
Powerwall 3 includes an integrated solar inverter which efficiently converts solar energy into stored electricity, allowing the system to capture more solar energy in the process.
Whole-Home Backup Protection
Powerwall is a self-sufficient home battery that provides power during outages, requires no maintenance, and is silent. The increased backup power of Powerwall 3 allows you to power more items at the same timewith up to 10kW of continuous power.
Power Everything
Powerwall stores solar energy for when it's needed, lessening grid dependence. Pair it with other Tesla products to save costs, cut carbon emissions, and ensure outage readiness.
Modern and Compact
Powerwall's simple setup and sleek design suit any home aesthetic, with a compact build for indoor or outdoor mounting.
Powerwall 2 or Powerwall 3
The Tesla Powerwall 3 introduces several key improvements over the Powerwall 2, despite both models offering the same energy storage capacity of 13.5 kWh.
Increased Power Output
Powerwall 3 provides significantly more continuous power output at 10 kW, compared to Powerwall 2’s 5 kW. This means the Powerwall 3 can handle more energy-intensive appliances like air conditioning units or electric vehicle chargers during outages, while the Powerwall 2 is more suited to lighter loads such as lighting and outlets
Integrated Solar Inverter
A major advantage of the Powerwall 3 is its built-in solar inverter, which eliminates the need for a separate inverter, streamlining the installation and reducing overall costs. The Powerwall 2 requires an external inverter, making it less efficient in direct solar-to-grid energy conversion
Scalability
Both models are expandable, but the Powerwall 3 allows for more efficient system expansion, supporting up to 54 kWh per unit through additional DC expansion packs, whereas the Powerwall 2 supports a maximum of 135 kWh by stacking up to 10 units
Design and Size
The Powerwall 3 is slightly smaller in height and width but heavier than the Powerwall 2. It also offers improvements in weather resistance, including flood and dust protection
Battery Chemistry
The Powerwall 3 uses Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) cells instead of the Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt (NMC) cells found in earlier models. LFP cells are safer, longer-lasting, and more thermally stable than NMC cells. LFP cells also contain no cobalt, addressing ethical concerns around cobalt mining, and many battery manufacturers, including Tesla, are moving towards phasing out cobalt in the coming years.

Powerwall FAQs
We've collated responses to the most common questions we receive from customers contemplating the installation of Tesla batteries. However, as all households are unique, to guarantee you select the best solution that provides a long-term return, we recommend speaking to a member of our team.
How much is a Tesla Powerwall?
A Powerwall Battery is a premium product, priced accordingly. Powerwall pricing surged significantly in 2022 due to high demand and limited supply, but has since reverted to earlier levels. In 2024, the cost of a standalone Powerwall 2, including installation by a reputable installer, is expected to be around $19,000. However, your price will vary based on numerous factors, including the complexities of the installation. For an accurate cost to install a Powerwall Battery at your home, contact our team of solar battery specialists.
Will Powerwall work with my existing solar system?
Tesla batteries are engineered for compatibility with a wide range of solar inverters and panel systems. Nonetheless, compatibility can depend on the specific make and model of your existing equipment, making a professional assessment crucial for seamless integration. As an AC-coupled battery storage system, the Powerwall is particularly beneficial for integration with existing solar installations or when adding battery storage retrospectively. Its inverter is responsible for converting the DC electricity stored in the battery into AC electricity, thereby enabling it to power your home efficiently.
Can I install multiple Tesla batteries?
The Powerwall 3 boasts a usable capacity of 13.5kWh, sufficient to power most family homes under normal conditions. However, it is possible to connect up to 4 Tesla Powerwall 3 batteries, providing a total usable capacity of 81kWh. Should you require this level of energy storage, it's likely we can offer an alternative solution better tailored to your needs.
How long will installation take?
The installation time for a Tesla Powerwall can vary depending on several factors, including the complexity of your home's electrical system, the specific requirements of the installation site, and whether additional electrical upgrades are needed. On average, the installation process can take anywhere from a few hours to a full day.
It's essential to have a site assessment conducted by a member of our team before the installation. This assessment will provide a clearer estimate of the time required based on your home's specific needs and the installation's complexity.
How long will a Tesla backup power my home for?
The duration a Tesla Powerwall can power your home during an outage depends on several factors, including the amount of energy your household consumes, and whether your solar panels are generating power during the outage.
A single Tesla Powerwall has a usable energy storage capacity of 13.5 kWh. The length of time it can power your home is determined by dividing this capacity by your home's hourly energy consumption. For example, if your home uses energy at a rate of 2 kW per hour, a fully charged Powerwall could theoretically power your home for about 6.75 hours (13.5 kWh / 2 kW = 6.75 hours).
However, this is a simplified calculation. Real-world factors such as the efficiency of the system, energy consumption variations throughout the day, and the potential for solar generation to recharge the Powerwall during daylight hours can all affect the actual duration.
What type of battery chemistry does Powerwall use?
The Tesla Powerwall uses lithium-ion battery chemistry, lithium-ion batteries are widely used in various applications, from electric vehicles to portable electronics, due to their efficiency, reliability, and performance and offer homeowners a dependable and effective solution for storing electrical energy.
Powerwall 2 used a type of lithium-ion battery called lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide (NMC). This type of battery chemistry is chosen for its high energy density and long cycle life, making it suitable for residential energy storage applications.
Powerwall 3 uses Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) cells instead of NMC. LFP cells are safer, longer-lasting, and more thermally stable than NMC cells. LFP cells do not use cobalt -removing ethical concerns surrounding cobalt mining.
Where can I install a Powerwall?
The Tesla Powerwall can be mounted on a wall or placed on the floor, indoors or outdoors, in a location protected from harsh weather and direct sunlight. It's best situated near your electrical switchboard and solar inverter for straightforward connections and in an area accessible for maintenance. Optimal placement aims to avoid extreme temperatures to preserve efficiency and lifespan.
Compliance with AS/NZS 5139 standards, which dictate solar battery installation and safety, is crucial. This includes considerations for fire safety, clearance from windows, doors, and pathways, and protection from impacts, such as from a vehicle in a garage. Employing a certified installer is essential for ensuring safety, adherence to regulations, and optimal system performance.
