The History of SunPower
SunPower was founded in California in 1985 by Dr. Richard Swanson, an engineering professor at Stanford University. At the time the application of solar technology was largely limited to satelites - Dr Swanson set out to develop cost effective and efficent cell technology that could be utilised here on Earth.
Over the following decades SunPower lead the way in solar innovation, developing some of the most efficient cells and panels available. In 2012, SunPower acquired SunRay Renewable Energy. This allowed SunPower to expand their reach and in the US market become a one-stop-shop for solar panel design, manufacture, and installation. Throughout the rest of the world and for us here in Australia, SunPower Corporation have always distributed their solar panels via a network of authorised solar installers.
